Its funny but great minds think alike although not exactly alike. I'm also an avid reader and use four different coloured highlighters, although not all at the same time. The first time I read a book I use the yellow highlighter and at the end of the book I write my own synopsis of the highlights. Usually this I will read more than once as its what applies to me right.

Some books I get around to reading a second time. On this occasion I use an orange highlighter. Its funny how often I highlight new material which wasn't relevant to me on the first read through. Perhaps I wasn't ready for it on the first read, or perhaps my way of thinking and expectation has advanced?

Some books are so good I eventually read them a third or even a fourth time and go through the same process with blue or green highlighters. But I love your process, far more advanced than mine.

A very useful post and video.

I do something similar when I reread, but usually it involves underlining or starring key points and adding comments or afterthought in the margins. I also indicate when the highlights relate to similar ideas in other books or articles I've read. I take it you read mostly physical books? I used to all the time but since I invested in Readwise, I started reading ebooks for the simplicity of automatically import my highlights to Notion 😃

I used to read all printed books, but now I live in two homes on two continents, that would be difficult. From mid-September to mid-May I migrate from my UK west country home and travel the southern Visayan island of Cebu.

I live a good four-hour drive from the city, and so I download ebooks which is both cheaper and more convenient.😀
