Playing around with Notion Calendar - New app!
Notion has released a free calendar app that integrates with your databases
Notion released a brand new (and free!) calendar app that integrates with your various databases.
I’ve been playing with the app since, and I’ll share a few of my takeaways with you today.
Integration with Google Calendar
First of all, this new calendar app is based on your Google Calendar. You have to connect the app with your Google account to use it.
I’ve been using Google Cal for the past several years as my main scheduling app and I was pleasantly surprised to see that my alternate calendars were also integrated within Notion Calendar, allowing me to see everything at once, and easily toggle my alt views on and off.
Integration with your Notion databases
Any database in your connected workspace(s) can integrate with this new app.
There’s a catch; you have to create a calendar view in your database and apply a date property to your entries to see them in Notion Calendar.
Any date property will do. I wanted to integrate my content calendar, but I ran into a bit of a snag, as my blog entries weren’t showing up. Turns out you can change witch property your calendar view will show with this simple trick :
Next to your calendar view, click on the three dots menu and click on layout. Under the calendar layout, click on Show calendar by, then select your relevant date property. And voilà!
Hat tip to Thomas Frank for this neat little tip!
Not just a regular calendar app
First of all, having the ability to link to any page in your Notion workspace is quite revolutionary. But Notion Calendar is also incredibly advanced.
You can customize your view to your liking, zoom in to only see your work hours, use a myriad of hotkeys and keyboard shortcuts, and even select the number of days you want to see.
I’ve been playing with the 14-day layout and it makes planning a charm during my weekly review!
I also like that you can see today as the first day of your weekly view by clicking Alt+t. You can press any number on your numpad to show that many days in your current view.
It is also very easy to duplicate events, drag and drop items, and the changes you make in the app convert to the relevant page in Notion.
Let’s say you have an all-day task in your database, if you drag and drop it into a time slot on the calendar, your Notion page will apply a duration. It’s pretty cool!
Unsure you’ll like it? Check this out!
Thomas Frank published two very complete videos about the various features of Notion Calendar last week. The first is a basic overview, and the second contains less-known and more advanced tips to get the most out of the new app. Both are worth checking out if you are intrigued by Notion Calendar.

Want to give it a try? Just go to calendar.notion.so and connect your workspace and Google account. Then create your calendar view (if you haven’t already) and click open in calendar. Easy peasy!
As of today, you can get a desktop or browser app, it’s also available for iOS mobile devices, and the Android version is coming soon.
I have been using Notion Calendar exclusively for the past two weeks and it’s quickly become a favorite! Let me know if you tried it and if it worked for you!

Thank you for this. I've downloaded the calendar app but then I was a bit stuck with what to do next. Old definitely have a play around with it now and see what it can do.
