Am I just adding to the noise?
In the era of information overload, am I just adding to the noise?
I was watching Tiago Forte’s latest Youtube video yesterday, and it made me reconsider this newsletter.
In this day and age, we are bombarded by gigabytes of information daily. Tweets, texts, articles, countless newsletters. We are exhausted and spend hours consuming content all over the place. TV, streaming, podcasts, and more!
And it made me think. Am I just adding to the noise?
I mean, how many bloggers cover the topic of productivity nowadays? Thousands?
How am I different, what special flavour am I adding to the mix? Is it necessary? Is it vital?
I mean, you probably get a few dozens of newsletters every day. Do they add value to your life? Do you benefit from them? I know most of them are ultimately trying to sell you a course, an ebook, a program. Is it really what you want?
Do we really learn from all this media consumption? Does it bring value? Or does it just contribute to the overwhelm of modern life?
Now, my friends, I would really like to hear your thoughts in the comments below. Do you find value from Substack newsletters? Should I keep going?
I thank you in advance for your honesty.
The procrastination series has been 100% helpful. Each was long enough to include the information needed but short enough I didn’t procrastinate reading it or lose interest half way through. Thank you for writing it!
Absolutely keep going. There's a lot of noise, for sure but so much of it is just that - noise. The joy of Substack, for me is that it allows us to tune out a lot of that noise and focus in just on those voices we want to hear from.
Having said that I purposely didn't send out an email on Friday this week, our inboxes were so overloaded with black Friday hype that I felt overwhelmed (and unsubscribed from a lot) and I was fairy sure my audience would be feeling the same.
